Tire Safety

25
The safety of your tires almost boils down to the safety of you, your family, and your car or truck. Just think about this, without tires, your car or truck wouldn't be able to take you anywhere, right? Now when you add an important component to your vehicle, such as the tires, most people would want them to be in tip-top shape in hopes of getting better gas mileage, having a smoother ride, and most importantly, keep you and your family safe.
You should check over your vehicle on a regular basis, not just the tires. Yes, the tires are very important, but that doesn't mean that they are the only thing you need to have a fully functional vehicle.

There are a few simple tests that you can do to make sure your tires are still okay. One of them is, you can take a penny and stick it into a groove of the tire and make one full rotation with it, if you can see all of Lincoln's head, then you have a problem. That means that you have 1/16" left of tire tread, if not less. Once you reach this point, you run the risk of a blown tire and loss of traction, two things I'm not comfortable with. Also, check your tire pressure often. This doesn't just let you know the condition of your tires, but it can also help you detect small leaks that may have the potential of growing in size. You want to have the optimum tire pressure, (it normally has the psi labeled on the side of the tire.), If you don't have enough air in it, you will have more traction, but you will significantly lose gas efficiency, and if they are over the psi limit, you significantly lose traction. You must find the medium that is right for your tires.

There are many things you can do to prevent such bad and dangerous things from happening.  Checking your tires once a week even can save you a lot of stress, time, and money and it only takes about three minutes to do! Take your precautionary measures and you should be all set.
