How do I Catch & Remove a Bat in the House?
- 1). Clear the room the bat is in of people and pets. Close off the room by shutting all the doors that lead into it. This will prevent the bat from entering other areas of your home.
- 2). Open all the exterior windows and doors in the room. This will give the bat plenty of ways to escape. Leave the lights on, if applicable. Position yourself against a wall or door.
- 3). Watch the bat without moving or making noise, according to the Penn State College of Agricultural Sciences. It may find an exit route and escape. After 10 or 15 minutes, the bat will likely become tired and land on a curtain or wall.
- 4). Put on a pair of leather or heavy work gloves. Catch the bat by carefully placing the plastic container over it so it's trapped inside.
- 5). Lift the container up slightly and slide the cardboard underneath it. Hold the cardboard against the container to keep the bat from escaping. Take the container outside away from the house. Set it on a place up off the ground and remove the cardboard to free the bat. It will probably take a minute or two for the bat to get its bearings before it flies away.
