Garden Aisle Decor for an Afternoon to Evening Wedding

Pomander balls are large, flower-covered balls hung by a ribbon on top. They make a sweet aisle decoration for garden weddings, and they are easy to make at home. Flowers that work well for these arrangements include roses, carnations, daisies and other compact blooms. To construct the decorations, wrap a ribbon around an 8-inch floral foam ball and pin the ribbon in place with a series of corsage pins. Tie the loose ends together in a bow on top to give the pomander something to hang off of. Cut your flowers' stems to 1 inch and push their ends into the floral foam. Hang the pomanders by the ribbon on the aisle side chairs. - Your lanterns can also be used as table decorations after the ceremony concludes.Jupiterimages/Polka Dot/Getty Images
If your wedding celebration is going to take place after dusk, consider lining your aisle with a subtle light source. Lanterns, either hung on the aisle side chairs or on their own garden hooks, will make your aisle glow as you walk down it. Either use conventional candles, or, if you are concerned about children burning themselves, look for battery powered tea lights. These tea lights last for hours and provide a similar effect to traditional candles. - Topiary trees will look short and sweet lining your aisle.Polka Dot Images/Polka Dot/Getty Images
Topiary trees are highly manicured and shaped trees, and their striking appearance is prized at events such as weddings. Topiary trees can be decorated to display many different types of decorations, from subtle moss to flamboyant fruit or flowers. To create an artificial topiary tree, fill a planting pot with dry-hard clay and push a straight branch through the middle. Carve a hole in the bottom of a floral foam ball to correspond with the branch's size and push the ball on to the branch. Repeat this process with a second branch and ball if you want a multilayer tree. To cover the topiary, use hooks of floral wire to secure Spanish moss to the surface. Add silk flowers or vines in the same way. To incorporate fruit, push a thin stick into one side of the fruit without going all the way through it. Push the loose end of the stick into the topiary tree to secure the fruit to the tree. - Decorated birdcages make a romantic statement.Hemera Technologies/PhotoObjects.net/Getty Images
For an early afternoon garden party, select a decoration that looks its best in the sunlight. Vintage birdcages are a popular choice for wedding decor. If you have a tree with low branches in your garden, consider hanging the birdcages from them. If not, look for free-standing garden hooks used for hanging plants to give your birdcages some lift. For a stunning effect, drape lengths of wide tulle ribbon between the birdcages, or thread crystal and pearl beads onto wires and attach them to the cages' bars. Filling the inside of the cages with flowers can also make an attractive display.
