Sci-Tech Information: The World’S Future Solar Vehicle Sunswift EVe UNSW Students

The University of New South Wales' solar car racing team, SUNSWIFT, has unveiled the designs of its newest car, Sunswift eVe. The team hopes to race the car this October in the World Solar Challenge - a grueling race across the desert from Darwin to Adelaide.
Sunswift's latest car design, eVe, moves away from pure racing and towards private transport applications.
€This year's vehicle, unlike some of our previous models, has four wheels, doors and is designed to be safer and more practical. It departs from the typical spaceship design of most solar cars and looks like an actual car!€ explained Sam Paterson, who is the current Project Director.
The team is currently raising funds through its crowd funding project to help finance the construction and racing of their latest vehicle, Sunswift eVe.
Sunswift has chosen to host its crowd funding campaign with Pozible, an Australian start-up and community-building platform. The objective of Sunswift's Pozible campaign is to raise funds to build eVe and help pay for the teams' race campaign in the World Solar Challenge.
Last week, Sunswift unveiled its 2013 solar car, three months before the official launch date. Cr Tony Bowen, Mayor of Randwick Council, spoke at the event.
€We are taking on something as quirky and important as creating an emissions free car,€ said Tony Bowen. €This car encapsulates our great Australian spirit and gives us an opportunity to take on universities overseas.€
Sunswift has set a funding target of $20,000 which it hopes to raise by the 28th of June. As Pozible is an €all-or-nothing' crowdfunding platform, unless the team reaches the target by the deadline, Sunswift will receive no funds.
During the campaign, supporters €pledge' certain dollar amounts towards specified €rewards' offered by the team. Sunswift is offering a range of rewards at different values, including the opportunity to take eVe for a test drive around a race track!
Sunswift is the premier solar car racing team in Australia, and competes against world class institutions such as MIT, Oxford and Stanford in the World Solar Challenge. Sunswift competes on a tight budget which pales in comparison to some of its rivals, some of whom enjoy generous financial backing from large automotive manufacturers such as Volkswagen and Ford.
Despite this, Sunswift has achieved monumental success and maintains an enviable track record.
In 2011 Sunswift's previous racer, Ivy, broke the Guinness World Record for the fastest solar car, travelling at 88.783 kilometers per hour. Incredibly, this was achieved using less energy than a conventional household toaster.
