Control Panel Method

• 1). Open the "Start" menu and type "system" in the search bar.
  
  
• 2). Click "System Information" from the result list.
  
  
• 3). Read the value next to "System Type." The value will read "32-bit" if you are running an i386 system.
  
  

System Information Window Method

• 1). Click the "Start" button and type "system" in the search bar at the bottom of the "Start" menu.
  
  
• 2). Click "System Information" below the "Programs" banner.
  
  
• 3). Select "System Summary" in the navigation bar on the left side of the window.
  
  
• 4). Locate "System Type" in the alphabetically sorted right panel.
  
  
• 5). Read the value immediately to the right of "System Type." If it reads "x86-based PC" then your system is using i386 architecture.
