Father"s Day - Did You Know?

130
Did you know that Father's Day was something first thought of by Sonora Smart Dodd of Washington? It has been recorded that Dodd came up with the idea while listening to a Mother's Day sermon in 1909.
From this, you can gather that moms beat dads to it! Father's Day became a law which become permanent in 1972.
For 2008, Father's Day in the USA is on 15 June while it is celebrated on 7 September in Australia and New Zealand.
Father's Day serves to acknowledge the often unsung feats of fathers everywhere.
It is to her credit that Dodd initiated the idea to honor her father.
We all can appreciate the need for a special day to honor our fathers.
In all cultures, traditionally, mothers enjoy a unique place and respect in the lives of people.
However, there are many fathers who deserve special recognition especially on Father's Day.
We have heard of many stories where fathers have struggled against the odds to raise their children single handedly under tragic and difficult circumstances.
Fathers have been known to be equally selfless in raising their children as single parents.
They make the often taken for granted parental sacrifices by being courageous, selfless, and loving in their own way.
Therefore, it is all the more appropriate that they be honored on Father's Day.
People are comfortable with father figures and enjoy the company of such figures for their warmth, wisdom and strength.
Though, at times, relationships with fathers could prove difficult, there is always a sense of gratitude for the many good things that they made possible.
In the later part of their lives, many people recognize their fathers by wanting to follow in their footsteps.
Fathers have, by tradition, occupied the often thankless position of being "providers" for the family.
On Father's Day, it does not matter what they did or did not do.
What matters is that we remember them in a special way.
The English have a saying that, " "one father is more than a hundred schoolmasters.
" By example, father's teach their children all they need to know about duty, responsibility, faith, loyalty and hard work.
How would you want to honor your father on Father's Day this year? Visit them? Take them out for a meal? If it is cards, they would prefer cards that are not too sentimental.
Humorous cards are a good bet.
Whatever you choose to do, share your heartfelt thanks with your dad.
If it is a gift, select the best choice gifts.
