How to Install a Power Air Pressure Switch
- 1). Screw the air pressure switch onto the threaded opening on the air pressure tank, using a wrench. Using a screwdriver, unscrew the cover of the pressure switch to expose the terminal screws inside.
- 2). Cut a piece of electrical cable needed to run from the switch to a nearby 220-volt electrical outlet. Cut away 2 inches from the sheathing of the electrical cable, using diagonal pliers. Strip off 1/2 inch of insulation from the end of each exposed wire with a wire stripper.
- 3). Wrap white wire (hot) and the black wire (hot) clockwise around each outermost terminal screw on the switch, then tighten each connection with a screwdriver. Wrap black electrical tape a few times around the white wire to indicate its use as a power wire.
- 4). Wrap the bare/green wire (ground) clockwise around the green screw on the metal frame of the pressure switch, then tighten the screw securely.
- 5). Wrap the two power wires running from the electric pump motor clockwise around each of the two innermost terminal screws on the pressure switch.
- 6). Screw the green/bare wire running from the electric motor onto the green grounding screw on the metal frame of the switch. Replace the pressure switch cover.
- 7). Unscrew the 220-volt plug cover with a slotted screwdriver to expose the opening at the bottom of the plug. Slip the electrical cable through the opening on top of the plug, and then pull the wires from the opening at the bottom of the plug.
- 8). Remove 2 inches of cable sheathing from the tip of the cable, then strip off 1/2 inch from the tip of each wire. Wrap a band of black electrical tape near the tip of the white wire to indicate that it is a power wire.
- 9). Wrap the black wire (hot) and the white wire with black tape (hot) individually around each brass terminal screw at the base of the plug. Wrap the green/bare wire clockwise around the green terminal screw. Tighten all screws firmly, then replace the plug cover.
