Hair Removal for Bodybuilding

11

    Shaving

    • The most cost effective method of removing hair is shaving. You've already got a razor for your face; that same razor can be used to shave the rest of your body. Shaving is the most economical way to rid your body of unwanted hair. It's also the most time-consuming. If you're looking to shave only your chest, and are willing to do it at least twice per week, this option may work best for you. Keep in mind that the shaved areas are going to be very sensitive for awhile, but will toughen up with time. Be sure to shave in the direction of hair growth. Shaving against could cause painful ingrown hairs. If you are shaving your whole body, you may want to purchase a lady's razor. These are designed more for body use. Also, keep in mind that you'll need to change your razors often to prevent cuts from a dull blade.

    Hair Removal Creams and Sprays

    • Hair removal creams and sprays are a good alternative to shaving. The results last a few days longer, and the procedure is painless. Figure on spending around $25 per month, and using the cream or spray at least once per week. The downfall to this method is your body is exposed to the chemical ingredients of the product on a regular basis, which may be too much to handle for those with sensitive skin. You may also find this method doesn't completely remove the unwanted hair, and another method such as shaving will be needed in addition to creams or sprays.

    Waxing

    • Waxing can be quite painful! However, it is an affordable option for those who don't want to shave on a regular basis. The cost is around $50 for back or chest, or $300 for entire body. Costs vary by region, so shop around. Gradually, the hair lightens up with each waxing, so it's needed less often. This is a great method if you don't mind the pain and don't want or cannot afford permanent hair removal.

    Electrolysis and Laser Removal

    • Both electrolysis and laser removal are permanent in most cases. They work by killing the hair follicles so hair cannot grow back. Both must be performed in a clinical setting and are expensive. Prices for these procedures vary widely for different areas, but expect to pay several thousand dollars if you want permanent hair removal for your entire body. This may be a good option if you are thinking about competing in bodybuilding competitions, and don't want the hassle of countless sessions of waxing or bi-weekly shavings.
