How to Write Your Own Poem for Your True Friend
- 1). Write down a list of your friend's qualities. Think about why your friend is so special to you. Recall special memories you've shared with your friend--something the two of you will remember. Write down some of the ways your friend has been there for you in good times or bad. The more you can write down, the easier the words will come to you when you begin expressing them in a poem.
- 2). Write a stanza that describes your friend. Use some of the qualities you wrote down as you were brainstorming ideas. A good opening stanza might go:
When times were hard you were there
Like a rock I could lean upon.
Never asking for anything,
Simply offering support.
You can rhyme all, none or some of the lines of your poem. It doesn't matter. What matters are the words and how they express your feelings. - 3). Write the next stanza expressing the gratitude you have for the friendship. The stanza can also include your promise to return the friendship. Use experiences whenever possible that your friend will recognize. This helps personalize the poem. An example might be:
I will treasure your friendship always,
Keep you in my heart.
I will be here when you need me.
We will never grow apart.
