Camp Lutheridge, Arden, North Carolina
About.com Rating
Nick - I've known about this campground for years. My daughter has been attending summer camp there for 6 years, and my wife did as well, when she was young. 2003 was the first year we've stayed in the campground, but definitely not the last.
Campground Review
Camp Lutheridge is a Lutheran supported camp with various programs for youths and adults. Their campground is rather small with only about a dozen sites available.
The July 4th weekend is probably the busiest time, and in 2003, it was less than half full. Each site has water and electricity, a picnic table, and fire ring. There is a bath house, but the showers are cold water only.
It's a beautiful setting. The campground is surrounded by trees, with a small lake across the street. During the day, you may hear the sound of campers at play, but at night, you hear mostly wildlife. Most amenities around Lutheridge are geared for the participants in summer camp programs. There is a pool, but check with the office to learn when it's available to use.
This campground is a bit rustic, but the big draws to me are price and location. It's off the same I-26 exit as the Asheville, NC airport. If you turn left out the gate, you'll be at the Biltmore House in 10 minutes or the Blue Ridge Parkway before that. Currently the fee is only $5.00 for tents, and $7.00 for campers/RVs.
