How to Get Rid of Frown Lines
- 1). Exercise. Though it might not give the instant gratification some are seeking, and could involve more effort than most are willing to give, facial exercises can reduce wrinkles and improve skin texture, among other benefits. Exercise increases blood flow to the area and improves muscle tone. For frown lines on the forehead, press your index fingers on your forehead above your eyes, and use them to resist against lifting your eyebrows. Do this a total of 40 to 50 times, stopping to rest after every eight or 10 repetitions.
- 2). Apply topical remedies. Countless creams and other substances are marketed as reducing wrinkles, and these can be applied to frown lines, but they're only as effective as their ingredients. In general, alpha lipoic acid or Vitamin C Ester smooth surface defects like lines or wrinkles. Anti-inflammatories, like DMAE, improve skin tone. Nano-Lipobelle H-EQ10 and Pal-GQPR are micro-nutrients that replenish proteins and fatty acids that can reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
- 3). Go for Botox. Though its possible side effects have been the subject of some humor, the fact remains that Botox does relax deep facial muscles and leave skin looking younger. The treatment only lasts for about 4 to 6 months, but is much less invasive than most surgical procedures, and is becoming increasingly common for cosmetic purposes.
- 4). Lose a few layers. Several common techniques produce a younger, more wrinkle-free look by removing the outermost layers of skin. Chemical peels use the application of strong acids to the face to ultimately improve texture and appearance. Dermabrasion involves scraping away the outer skin with a wire brush or other friction instrument. Thermage doesn't remove the top layers immediately, but uses radio waves to stimulate the production of collagen in deeper layers, which appear more elastic and youthful as they emerge. Naturally, all of these procedures can be painful, involve some degree of risk and should only be undertaken in consultation with a licensed professional.
- 5). Get a facelift. A traditional facelift is performed by manually pulling the skin and muscles of the face taut, which reduces sagging, lines and wrinkles. A brow lift, also called a forehead lift, can better target frown lines, because it involves making an incision above the hairline and removing excess skin.
