Karamo Brown was born November 2, 1980. In 2004, Karamo came out on the fifteenth season of MTV's The Real World. Brown, who identifies as same-gender-loving, told Blackplanet.com, "There are no real young African-American people who identify as SGL (same-gender-loving) on television. No one that I could really look up to—so I said, I'm comfortable with myself so maybe I can help somebody else."

Since The Real World, Karamo Brown has traveled the country speaking at various universities and hosting gay prides.


He and his partner Edgardo Nieves also founded the Brave Heart Fund, an organization that connects and provides funding for other organizations focused on LGBT youth.

Karamo Brown resides in Hollywood, California.
