My Garmin StreetPilot I5 Won't Find Satellites
- 1). Go outdoors to an area free from obstructions, such as large buildings and trees.
- 2). Turn on your Garmin StreetPilot i5 by holding down the "Power" button.
- 3). Look at the signal icon, in the upper left-hand corner of the touchscreen. Once outdoors, your Garmin will pick up a satellite signal. This may take up to 40 minutes. The signal icon is a series of five bars, progressively getting bigger as you move from left to right. When the unit has a good satellite signal, the bars will be shaded green. When the unit does not have a good satellite signal, the bars will either be red, indicating a poor signal, or white, indicating no signal at all. If you don't acquire a signal, proceed to Step 4.
- 4). Turn the unit off. Slide the battery cover, located on the back side of the Garmin StreetPilot i5, downward to remove it. Remove the 2 AA batteries. Leave them out of the unit for 60 seconds to perform a soft reset. Reinsert the batteries and replace the battery cover. Repeat steps 1 through 3.
- 5). Contact Garmin customer support at 1-800-800-1020 if the unit still will not acquire a signal. If your unit is still under warranty, the company will have you ship the unit back to its facility for repair.
