How to Fix Floor Tiles

7
    • 1). Remove the grout from around the damaged tile, using a grout saw to scrape and dig it out. Push the square blade of the saw forward and back repeatedly, working gradually around the tile.

    • 2). Extract the pulverized grout from the lines with a hand-held vacuum.

    • 3). Remove the damaged tile by pressing the tip of your chisel at the base of the tile, accessing it from the open line where you extracted the grout and tapping the chisel firmly with your hammer. Move the chisel to various points around the tile, working the tile out rather than trying to remove it all at once.

    • 4). Clean up any remaining mortar and grout from the space, using your chisel and hammer, after the tile is out. Vacuum out the space. Repeat for each damaged tile.

    • 5). Apply tile mortar over the back of one of your replacement tiles, spreading it on with a putty knife. Make the mortar about 1/8 inch deep on the back of the tile. Press the tile to the floor, putting it in place of one of the extracted tiles. Space it consistently with the surrounding tile. Repeat for each replacement tile.

    • 6). Let the tiles set for a day. Spread grout over the whole area with your grout float, forcing the grout into the joints between the tiles while scraping it from the surface. Clean the excess grout off the tiles with a damp sponge. Let the grout set for 48 hours.
