How to Use a Foam Bobber
- 1). Choose a size appropriate to the weight of the bait you are using. Most bobbers will advertise how much weight they can support on their packaging. Select a bobber that holds that weight and not much more, as this will make it sink easier when a fish is working on the bait.
- 2). Run a foot of fishing line out of the reel. Foam bobbers tend to need more line to be properly attached. A foot or more of line gives you enough space to work with so the hook can be properly spaced.
- 3). Hold the bobber in your hand and locate the top. This will be the fatter end of the teardrop-shaped bobber. Many traditional foam bobbers have small rods running through the middle of them. Pull the rod down so a small hook pops up. Run the line through this hook and release the bobber so it locks in place.
- 4). Repeat this step using the bottom of the bobber. The foam bobber is designed so the top rod will be sticking up above the water and the lower rod will keep the bait directly beneath it.
- 5). Space the bobber so there is an appropriate distance from the hook. This takes some research and knowledge, as this distance will change based on the type of fish you are looking for and the depth of the water you are fishing.
