    University of Kansas

    • The University of Kansas is home to Det. 280 of the AFROTC. Cadets at KU come from a variety of different majors, including Architectural Engineering, African Studies, Aerospace Engineering and Arabic Language Studies. After graduation they become second lieutenants and receive further training as pilots, engineers or intelligence officers. To enhance their training skills, Det. 280 cadets rotate through leadership positions in the cadet wing. For example, for one week, a cadet may work as the morale officer of the cadet wing and the next week she will develop the class exercises for the weekly AFROTC leadership lab.

    University of New Hampshire

    • Detachment 165 resides at the University of New Hampshire, an hour east of Concord. Det. 165's curriculum starts with a one-unit leadership lab that cadets must take every semester of their undergraduate careers. In the lab meetings, cadets practice leading other cadets in drill and marching situations as well as in tactical situations. In freshman year, cadets must also take the "Foundations of the Air Force" course where they learn the history of the military branch they will serve in the future. Sophomores take "Evolution of the U.S. Air Force and Space Power." Here cadets learn about the technical capabilities of the Air Force. As juniors, cadets receive more in-depth instruction about leading and motivating airmen in "Air Force Leadership Studies." Finally, during senior year, cadets study the Air Force's relationship to the rest of the U.S. government and the world at large when they take "National Security Affairs."
