How to Build a Wall-Mounted Stand-Up Desk
- 1). Cut the plywood in half. Plywood is commonly sold in 4-by-8-foot sheets. Most home improvement stores will cut the plywood into two squares free of charge.
- 2). Cut the molding into strips and use wood glue and finishing nails to attach the molding around the unfinished perimeter of the plywood squares. Allow the glue to dry for several hours.
- 3). Sand the two squares until they are free of any rough spots.
- 4). Wipe the plywood squares with the lint free cloth and apply a coat of wood stain. Allow to dry overnight.
- 5). Apply one or two coats of polyurethane clear coat and allow to dry overnight.
- 6). Use the stud finder to mark appropriate studs and mount one of the squares to the wall using wood screws. The standing desk needs to be mounted so that the bottom of the desk is at elbow height. Use the measuring tape to determine how high on the wall you should mount the first square.
- 7). Drill two holes into the plywood you just mounted on the wall. Screw an eye bolt into each hole. The bolts should be located 1 inch from the top and side on both left and right.
- 8). Screw the second square of plywood to the bottom edge of the wall mounted square. It helps to have an assistant to hold the plywood during this step. An adjustable sawhorse can serve the same purpose as an assistant.
- 9). Drill two holes in the bottom piece for your remaining eye bolts. These should also be 1 inch in from the bottom and side. Once you have screwed the eye bolts into place pass the rope wire through the top and bottom eye bolts on each side. Secure the wire tightly with the dog clamps and snip excess wire.
