How to Use K9 Web Protection
- 1). Go to the K9 website (see link in Resources) and begin the download by clicking the box on the right side of your screen. This will bring you to the "K9 license request form." Fill out the demographic information accordingly.
- 2). Check your email for a free K9 license key. Click on the K9 website link in your email and then type this key in or cut and paste it in the correct registration field.
- 3). Download the K9 web protection software and complete the license agreement. Do not forget to install the software on your computer.
- 4). Go into the security settings screen and inspect the K9 default settings. This is set at the highest security level and will block all sites that may remotely be considered harmful, including all social networking websites such as Facebook and Myspace. You can go in and remove this setting and only block certain websites or put it on the second highest setting which will block most sites, but not the social networking websites.
- 5). Set a password you will remember for K9 when you are prompted. You will need this to change or override K9 settings. Memorize it and do not write it down. Do not make it easy for children to guess. Change it frequently.
- 6). Type the password if you would like to override a website that K9 has blocked, otherwise direct the child to choose a different website. You can tweak the settings as you go along if you feel they are not blocking enough or blocking too many websites. You can select websites by category or by website address.
