What is the TSA?

Definition:

The TSA stands for the Transportation Security Administration. The TSA is part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and manages travel security.

One of the TSA's big initiatives is the definition of what's allowed in carry-on luggage. For this, the organization has defined the 3-1-1 rule that specifies how many liquids passengers can carry on, and how they have to do it.

The TSA also provides a list of acceptable identification for checkpoints.

It's a good idea to verify you have what you need before you head to the airport.

What to know what NOT to bring with you on an airplane? Check out the TSA's list of prohibited items, including meat cleavers (though you can check them!).

And, although it can be a touchy subject, the TSA is also in charge of those wonderful pat downs that travelers experience when going through security.
