Free Online Lasik Evaluation

34
If you have been experiencing worsening of your eyesight, you may be wondering about Lasik surgery, and have decided to take a Free Online Lasik Evaluation.
Taking a Lasik Evaluation Online will ask you basic questions to determine whether your eyesight problems could be corrected with Lasik surgery.
For example, if you are a baby boomer between the ages of 40 and 60 years old, and are starting to need reading glasses to see numbers or read a book, then you may be experiencing Presbyopia and that is not corrected by Lasik surgery.
It is a natural part of aging, and may continue with or without Lasik surgery.
So, it is important to take a Lasik evaluation before making any firm decisions.
Once you have taken your free online Lasik evaluation, you will need to have an actual Lasik evaluation done by a licensed vision correction center, to determine whether the conditions you have will be correctable.
Many people are good candidates, but because Lasik involves basically cutting a flap around the pupil area of the cornea, there may be some patients that this is not a good option for.
For example, if you have excessively large pupils, they may expand beyond the flap region and this could cause a halo effect after surgery that you didn't have before.
A Lasik Evaluation will look at different factors, such as your visual capabilities-with or without corrective measures.
Next, they will look at pupil measurement, to see how large your pupil gets during low light, to make sure your pupil is not going to expand beyond the treatment area of Lasik, if it expands beyond, then serious consideration should be given to not having the refractive surgery.
Some centers will use a Colvard Pupillometer to measure precisely and is considered the best method available for measuring a dilated pupil.
After your Lasik Evaluation has made it past these tests, a corneal topography is normally performed, which analyzes your cornea shape, thickness and any irregularities.
This is a very important part of the Lasik Evaluation to determine how much cornea tissue can be removed or needs to be removed in the Lasik surgery and make sure there is enough of a margin.
This is especially important to determine higher correction needs and thin cornea tissue, as this is the main area of correction in Lasik procedure.
Tear film and Dry Eye analysis will also need to be done, as excessive dry eye will slow the healing process, and may need to be corrected prior to surgery.
Depending on whether the Lasik Evaluation shows it is a factor or not, it could also determine if you would be a better candidate for IntraLase Lasik, which costs more than traditional, but there is less dry eye associated with IntraLase or iLasik surgery.
A final step is a cycloplegic dilated exam, which is basically a pupil dilation exam, where they artificially dilate the pupil without affecting the lens behind it, to analyze the lens for correction purposes.
As you can see, the Lasik Evaluation encompasses much more than a few questions, it determines whether you are a good candidate for Lasik and what type of Lasik surgery procedure would benefit you, if any.
