How to Get Rid of Dandruff Easily
- 1). There are two types of scalp that tend to get dandruff: dry and oily scalp. It is important to determine which one you have first. This is very easy to do in most cases, scalp usually have the same type as facial skin. For example, if you have oily skin, your scalp tends to be oily as well. When you have dry facial skin, the scalp is most likely dry as well. Another method to determine scalp type is by the amount of oil it produces. If you don't wash your hair for one or two days, it becomes so oily that you can actually feel the oil with your hands, you have oily scalp. People with dry scalp won't have much oil in their hair even after three to four days of not washing their hair.
- 2). For those with dry scalp and dandruff problems, properly moisturizing the scalp is the key. Use a rich shampoo formulated for dry scalp and wash your hair every two to three days. After washing, follow up with an intense conditioner to repair the scalp. Leave it in the scalp for 5 to 10 minutes before rinsing off. It is also important to supplement your diet with fish oil everyday to get rid of dandruff.
- 3). For those with oily scalp, it is important to find a shampoo formulated for people with dandruff. Wash your hair with it every one to two days, whichever is appropriate for your case. Use a light conditioner or no conditioner at all for your hair.
- 4). Blow dry on slow setting and cool air to help prevent dandruff from shedding. Select a soft brush comb to comb your hair because you don't want to over irritate the scalp. It will help ease the dandruff problem.
- 5). For those with severe dandruff problems, it is good to use a specially formulated dandruff shampoo that has anti-fugal ingredients. These ingredients should be listed under active ingredients. They are zinc pyrithione, selenium sulfide or ketoconazole. Use this shampoo every time your wash your hair until the dandruff problem goes away. After that, use only once every week for maintenance purposes. If you stop using it completely, the dandruff will return.
