How to Operate an Inground Pool Filter System
- 1). If your pool has a sand filter, skip to Step 2. If your pool has a cartridge or diatomaceous earth (D.E.) filter, then you must first "shock" or super-chlorinate your pool water using unstabilized chlorine.
- 2). Close the filter drain and the vent valve.
- 3). Twist the valve knob on top of the pool filter to the left. This will fill the filter with water.
- 1). Switch the pool filter on. It should begin to operate normally.
- 2). Prime and start the pool pump per the manufacturer's instructions. Every pool pump is slightly different, so make sure you know the correct way to do this.
- 3). Get in your pool to check whether the pool pump and filter are both working quietly. Drop a leaf into the water. Is it being pulled toward the outlet?
- 1). Remove the basket from the skimmer area. Rinse it out with a garden hose. Run the pump for about a minute and then turn it off.
- 2). Turn the pump on and let it run until the water coming out is clear. This will take a few minutes.
- 3). Turn the pump off and change the filter's setting to "rinse." This will keep dirt from getting back in your pool.
- 4). Close the filter. Clean out the leaf trap near the pump.
- 5). Set your filter and pump back to their regular operating positions.
