What Information Should I Put on a Birth Announcement?

51
Parents will typically send out a birth announcement to their friends and family when they want to let them know about the newest addition to their family. In most cases, when you purchase birth announcement cards, you are going to get a blank card that has a cute design on it. Trying to decide what to write on the card is an agonizing decision for many parents. This guideline will provide you with all of the information that you will want to put on the card. If you need to purchase birth announcement cards or any other print products, check out stores like Hallmark and Moo Print Ltd.

Introduction

The first step in creating your birth announcement is selecting an introduction. Many parents will choose to take an excerpt from their favorite poem to use as an introduction. Other parents will choose a basic phrase, such as "(mom's name here) and (dad's name here) proudly welcome (name of baby here) into the world." If you are a religious person, you may want to go through your bible and pick out an excerpt that you feel will go well on your birth announcement.

Baby Information

Depending on the introduction phrase that you have used, you may or may not have already mentioned the name of your newborn child. If you haven't, list it below the introduction. It is up to you if you decide to include both the middle and last name of your baby. Once the name has been listed, you will want to include other details, such as the birth date, length in inches and weight in pounds. Many parents will decide to include additional information about their baby on the birth announcements, such as the place and time of birth. If you are putting together your birth announcement card on the computer, you can even choose to take a digital photo of your child and place it on the card, or just simply have some photos printed out and include them in the envelope when you mail the card out to your friends and family.

Parent's and Sibling's Names

Although this information is not required, most people will choose to include the names of the rest of their family on the birth announcement. The closing phrase that you use can be something like "Proud parents Bonnie and Clyde Robinson." If you are not officially married, you will want to include both the last name of yourself and your significant other. If you have any other children, you can include the name of them under the parent's names. Many people will choose to list the name of the grandparents as well. That allows the grandparents to share the card with all of their friends. You don't want to leave huge gaps on the card, so try to include as much information as possible to make the birth announcement visually pleasing.
