    Homemade Drum

    • Constructing a homemade drum is easily done from everyday household items. Gather an empty oatmeal can and its lid, a paper bag, construction paper, crayons or paint, craft glue, a rubber band, and child-safety scissors. Draw, color and paint designs and pictures on the construction paper you have chosen. Once you have finished, fit the construction paper around the oatmeal can and secure it with craft glue. Cut a 2-inch-wide circle out of the paper bag, and roll the paper into a ball. Place the ball inside, and glue the lid to the can to complete the drum.

    Noise Maker

    • Gather an empty water bottle, rice, beads, glitter, gems, kitchen funnel, and glue. After the items have been acquired, clean out the bottle and remove the tag. Dry the bottle thoroughly before beginning the project. Slide the funnel into the bottle and begin to fill it with the rice, beads, glitter, gems, and any other item that could fit inside the bottle and make noise once shaken. If younger children are helping with this project carefully monitor and help them fill the bottle with materials. After the bottle is full, glue the rim of the bottle and secure the bottle cap.

    Finger Cymbals

    • Collect a rubber band, hammer, nail, baby food lids, child-safety scissors, glue, and construction paper. Cut the rubber band in half and use a hammer and nail to punch a hole into the center of each baby lid. Push the rubber band pieces through the holes, and tie them into secure knots. Trace the shape of the lids on colored construction paper, and decorate the circles. Cut the circles out of the paper, cut subtle holes into the centers to push the rubber bands through, and glue the paper to the lids.

    Jingle Bell Mittens

    • With felt, a mitten pattern, scissors, jingle bells, needle and thread, and glue, you can design jingle bell mittens. Using the pattern, cut out four mitten pieces. Attach two of the mitten pieces together using glue, leaving enough room at the bottom for a hand to fit. Repeat this step with the second mitten. An adult should sew four jingle bells onto each finger of the mittens.
