CD Vs. DVD for Storing Video
- CD capacity is 700MB of data. A single-layer DVD holds up to 4.7GB of data, and a dual-layer DVD holds up to 8.5GB.
- The format the video is saved in, as well as the amount of data compression used, affects the amount of video you can store.
- Some stand-alone DVD players can read discs that you burn on your computer. If you want to watch the videos on your TV, check to see what your stand-alone accepts.
- Recordable CD media costs less than recordable DVD media. If you're going to hand out copies of videos that you've made, and they'll fit on a CD, that's the most cost-effective solution.
- Because of their smaller storage capacity, it takes more CDs than DVDs to store the same amount of data. If you have limited physical space to store the media, DVDs, especially dual-layer discs, are a better option.
