Clothing

• Long, roomy gowns typify a Renaissance look. In dark, drab colors, those dresses work well for Renaissance witch costumes. Other alternatives for clothing include peasant skirts paired with peasant blouses. A long, shroud-like robe would also serve the purpose. Go with natural fabrics rather than synthetics. Black, grays and even browns are appropriate. Purple and orange are Halloween colors, too, and might work for accents with a black costume.
  
  

Hair and Makeup

• Several variants exist for hair and makeup treatments for Renaissance witch costumes. For a realistic witch, pair naturally styled hair with plain makeup. The monstrous concept allows for more creativity. The same type of hair used for the realistic witch works, but so will a Medusa-styled head of snakes or fire red. Create a green-faced witch with makeup, or achieve an undead, zombie-like look with pale and bruised colors for a different take.
  
  

Head Wear and Footwear

• As with the other clothing choices, natural materials should be used for the head wear. A cone-style witch hat in the traditional style is a variant on the Renaissance princess hat, and therefore fitting in style. Make sure the type of material used to make it is natural, such as cotton or leather. Boots without zippers can be worn, but sandals will also work. Footwear should be made from leather or other natural material.
  
  

Accessories

• Jewelry in the Renaissance era was generally made from metal or wood. Celtic imagery is a good fit for most Renaissance costumes, but could take on a druid orientation when applied to a witch outfit. A broom makes a great accessory, but be sure it's an old fashioned straw broom. One with a handle made from crooked wood makes a great touch. Place a leather-styled binding on an old book to create a spell book.
