How to Paint on Small Rocks
- 1). Clean rocks thoroughly with soap and water. Scrub the surface of the rocks with a small brush or a rag. Rub towels dry with a towel and allow rocks to sit out until they are completely dry to the touch.
- 2). Paint small rocks a solid color using spray paint. If you plan on using the rocks outdoors, select an exterior spray paint. This will protect the finish from damage caused by extreme weather.
- 3). Paint designs onto the small rocks using a fine detailing brush and acrylic paints. Acrylic paints are reliable for porous rock surfaces and will hold up through vigorous movement. Hold the small rock in one hand to avoid moving the rock during the painting process.
- 4). Protect the painted finish by applying a spray-on clear coat once the pain is dry. Clear coats add a slight shimmer to the rock and protect the details for both interior and exterior use.
