How to Run a DSL Line

Measure the distance from the back of the modem to the telephone wall jack. Use this measurement when purchasing the DSL line from a computer supply store. - 2). Purchase one DSL filter for each device in the home that uses telephone lines, including telephones, burglar alarms and cable television receivers. Install the filters by connecting them to the phone jacks on the back of the devices.

Connect one end of the telephone line to the back of the DSL modem. Connect the other end of the telephone line to the filter installed on the telephone wall jack. - 4). Verify that the DSL line was installed correctly. Inspect the DSL light on the modem. Ensure the light is solid and not blinking.
- 5). If the modem's DSL light is blinking, power down the modem for 30 seconds by unplugging the power cord from the back of the modem. Plug the power cord back in. Wait for the DSL light to show solid before attempting to browse the Internet.
