How to Repair a Hercules Spa Pump
- 1). Disable the electricity powering the Hercules spa pump by switching off the breaker. Access the spa plumbing and disconnect the pump from the piping. Most spa pumps connect into the plumbing using unions, or breaks in the piping that can be unscrewed for easy removal, but some are connected directly to the piping, requiring a hacksaw for removal.
- 2). Loosen the screws or bolts around the pump housing connecting the two sections of the pump to each other with a screwdriver or wrench. Force apart the two sections and set the wet end aside.
- 3). Pull the plastic diffuser, used to regulate water flow to the impeller, off the shaft if one exists and remove the o-ring behind it. Lock the shaft securely in place with the wrench and unscrew the pump impeller off the shaft using your hand. Use a rag or other sturdy hand protection when handling the impeller to avoid cutting yourself on the impeller's sharp edges.
- 4). Pull the small piece of the pump seal off the shaft. Carefully slide on a new pump seal. Be careful not to touch the face of the seal or it may not work properly due to coming into contact with the oils on your body.
- 5). Hold the pump shaft still with the wrench and screw a new impeller onto the shaft. Ensure the new impeller fits snugly up against the pump's seal but do not over-tighten or you can damage the impeller.
- 6). Apply a replacement o-ring to the back of the diffuser. Lubricate the o-ring with a non-petroleum o-ring lubricant. Slide the o-ring and diffuser onto the pump shaft.
- 7). Connect the two sections of the Hercules spa pump together with the bolts or screws and a screwdriver or wrench. Connect the Hercules spa pump to the plumbing with glue and primer or with the help of the plumbing unions.
