How to Make a Bowtie Out of a Neck Tie
- 1). Lay the tie down flat with the wider end on your right. Measure five and a half inches in the wide section of the tie, leaving three to four inches of room to the right, and place a pin at the beginning and end of the five-and-a-half inch section.
- 2). Fold the right end of the tie under at the pin and then fold the tie over the long end at the other pin. Cut off the excess tie so that only the five-and-a-half inch section and the parts of the tie folded behind it remain. Set the cut piece of the tie aside.
- 3). Fold the cut end of the tie under one-half inch and sew in place. Tuck the sides of the tip of the tie under, as well, and stitch to hold them in place.
- 4). Hold the five-and-a-half inch piece up and squash the middle down to make a bow shape. Wind thread around the squashed part and knot to hold in place.
- 5). Pick up the long piece of tie you previously set aside. Measure a piece long enough to wrap around the tie wearer's neck and cut it out. Set it aside.
- 6). Cut another strip from the remaining long piece, long enough to wrap around the bow and fold and sew excess pieces under. Set it aside.
- 7). Pick up the neck wrap piece again. Lay the bow in the middle of the neck piece, right sides of both fabric up. Sew the pieces together at the middle of the bow.
- 8). Wrap the other piece around the center of the bow. Sew it to the bow tie, and then fold over any excess and sew it in place.
- 9). Fold over the cut end of your neck strap and sew it in place. Sew Velcro or snaps to each end of the neck strap. To wear, wrap the bow tie around your neck and snap or Velcro in place.
