Twitter is becoming more mainstream everyday.
Celebrities are joining Twitter in droves.
We even see it on the nightly news.
Now I'm not going to sit up here and try to judge whether or not that is a good thing or a bad thing.
I will however, give you some deadly traps to avoid like the plague when you're on Twitter.
Terrible Trap #1 Always talking about yourself.
I list this one first because this is so important.
Unless you are some major celebrity, no one wants to hear about you ALL the time.
I know that we are all on Twitter to make money.
But if all your posts are Me Me Me, you will turn off most people on Twitter.
Share some things that your friends are working on, even if you don't get an affiliate link.
People are on Twitter to learn new things.
There's room for self promotion but only after you have given to the community.
Terrible Trap #2 Always posting automatically.
I know time is valuable.
I'm aware that you have a business to run.
If all your tweets are done automatically, then people will assume that you are a spammer and roll on about their day.
It's okay to make a few automatic tweets here and there, but be sure to actually spend some time manually tweeting as well.
Spend at least 10-15 minutes a day posting interesting content to Twitter.
It might not seem like much, but trust me, it will go a long way in building relationships with your network.
Terrible Trap #3 Never following anyone back.
I could write a book about how annoying this last one is.
I can't stand to see people who have over a million people following them and they are following 0 back.
I won't even follow a person like this.
No one is so important that they can't interact with their fans.
When you don't follow people back you are basically saying that you don't want to engage in conversation with them.
You are saying that you want to talk at a person, not with that person.
This is a big no-no.
The only reason you shouldn't follow someone back is if they are obviously not a real person or if it is clear that they are a spam artist.
You never know what life may throw at you.
You may need your Twitter community to be there for you in one way or the other one day.
Twitter is a great way to get your name out there.
Be careful about what you put out there.
Remember first impressions last a lifetime.
You don't want to get a bad reputation on Twitter because bad news travels just as quickly, if not quicker, than good news.
You can fall from grace just as quickly as you rose to "rock star" status.
Be mindful of the things you tweet.
