How to Amplify WiFi Output
- 1). Use a parabolic antenna to generate a more directed WiFi signal. Since the signal is directed, devices in a specific area in front of the antenna will receive a boosted signal, but other areas will have a reduced signal. This is good for if you plan on using your laptop in a specific area of the home, but it is not ideal for use in every area of the home.
- 2). Set up a signal repeater to expand the range of your WiFi network. A signal repeater sits on the outer range of a WiFi network, receives the original signal and rebroadcasts the signal at an extended range. Multiple signal repeaters can be used in a series to create a long chain consisting of a single network. This is useful for patching holes in WiFi reception.
- 3). Position your WiFi network adapter in a location that best optimizes signal performance. Avoid placing it on the floor or near other large electronic devices. Place it in the center of your house to provide an even signal in every room. Do not place it near other wireless transmitters such as wireless phone base stations or you neighbor's WiFi adapter.
- 4). Consider using household objects to help expand the abilities of your WiFi network adapter's antenna. Metal objects such as silverware or a metal coat hanger have been known to improve signal quality. Empty Pringles cans have been surprisingly effective signal boosters. Although they may not be as aesthetically pleasing, they are very helpful at boosting signal strength on a budget.
