Diabetes: What Is It? What Are The Causes?

9
Diabetes mellitus or DM is a group of related conditions wherein the body can no longer maintain a favourable sugar level or blood glucose level.
This condition gives rise to different unfavourable changes in the body such as the following.
First symptom of diabetes is fatigue.
When a person has diabetes, the energy he or she uses no longer comes from glucose but from fat which is quite difficult to metabolize.
Yet another symptom is unexplained weight loss which happens due to the body's incapacity to process the calories in the food the take in.
Another reason is that diabetic individuals also release much sugar and water through constant urination.
All these add up and result to losing weight even with excessive eating.
A more common symptom is polydipsia or excessive thirst.
This happens due to the high sugar content in the blood that signals the brain to tell the body to drink more water so that the sticky blood could be diluted.
Also related to this symptom is the increase in the amount of urine excreted.
So now let's talk about the excessive urination or also known as polyuria.
This arises due to the body's effort to eliminate the sugar in the blood.
Also another sign that's evident with people who has diabetes is excessive eating or polyphagia.
It occurs because the increased amounts of insulin triggers the body to ingest more food.
Also included in the symptoms is poor wound healing.
This is due to the fact that high sugar levels hinder the proper functioning of the WBCs that shelter the body from bacteria.
Thus, without them functioning properly, poor wound healing occurs that could even lead to wound infection.
Last symptom you should know of is related to the mentation of the person of diabetes.
When sugar levels reach extreme heights, the mental status of the person becomes affected.
The evident signs of this change are agitation, unexplained irritability, inattention, extreme lethargy and confusion.
These are all caused by so many intertwined factors that are called diabetes causes.
These include a genetic inclination, the environment, lifestyle or a medical condition that has paved the way for diabetes to emerge.
Now that you have learned what causes diabetes, the symptoms, the treatments, etc.
, what next? Well, it's simple: go and implement some of what you have learned.
Even some of the most minor changes--to your diet habits--and starting exercising can help you.
It may not be apparent immediately but over a period of time, you will see the impact.
