Plenty of teenagers and some adults have to deal with blemishes and acne every day. Though many commercial products exist for getting rid of these blemishes, some are not as effective as others. Products that work for some people may not work for others. It can be frustrating and expensive to try multiple products to see what product or combination of products works best for you.

One solution is to use home remedies to treat your acne. Many people already have these inexpensive, necessary items in their home. These home remedies also may not react as harshly on the skin as some commercial products do.

    Baking Soda Toothpaste

    • Apply a little baking soda toothpaste to your blemishes each night right after you brush your teeth. The baking soda helps reduce redness and swelling during the night by absorbing oils and helping to kill bacteria. Rinse the toothpaste off the next morning with some cold water.

If you use gel toothpaste (which will not work for acne), combine some warm water with baking soda until you get a thin paste. Apply this paste to your pimples. It should work the same way; it just requires a bit more effort.

    Lemon Juice

    • Lemon juice is one of the most highly recommended remedies for many skin problems, acne being very high on the list. Use pure lemon juice; pre-mixed lemon beverages are not as concentrated and may not work as well. Plus, whole lemons are usually inexpensive.

Simply juice one lemon and strain out the seeds; you may strain out the pulp if you wish, but this isn't necessary. Soak a cotton swab in the lemon juice and rub it over your face before bed. In the morning, rinse it away with cool water. The citric acid dries oil, removes dead skin cells and kills bacteria, eliminating pimples and scars.

Make a lemon exfoliant by mixing a little sugar with the juice. This speeds the healing process.

    Apple Cider Vinegar

    • The salts in apple cider vinegar exfoliate dead skin cells that may clog pores, while the acidity removes oil and kills bacteria. Dip a cotton swab in apple cider vinegar and rub it on the affected areas each night before bed. Rinse it off with cool water after about 15 minutes. It should leave your skin soft and begin noticeably reducing acne and blemishes in about two weeks.
