Ideas for Translucent Paper
- Use translucent paper, either patterned or plain and in whatever color you like, to create delicate, romantic bouquets of paper flowers. Cut a circle with a 3-inch diameter out of translucent paper. Fold the circle in half, and then in half again so you have a triangular shape. Trim the top of the paper into a dome shape and then open out the circle. Cut down one of the folds so you can overlap two of the petals and glue one on top of the other. Push a length of floral wire through the middle of the flower as the stem.
- For an exotic and special gift wrap, use translucent paper. Pretty gifts such as candles are ideal subjects for a translucent wrapping. Scatter a little confetti inside the clear translucent paper before wrapping around the candle body. Tape the bottom edges closed, but leave a enough paper at the top the form gathers. Tie a colorful bow around the gathers and you have a gift-wrapping that's ornamental as well as functional.
- Vellum or translucent paper makes useful and decorative scrapbook embellishments, such as pockets and envelopes to hold memorabilia relating to the page, or snippets of journaling that you don't want on the main page. Fold the translucent paper in half, and either stick it directly onto the scrapbook page, or glue it first onto a sheet of card stock, and then onto the page. Use brads to secure the translucent paper if you don't want visible glue lines.
- Mat photos onto translucent paper as an alternative to colored card stock when you're making greeting card toppers. You can also make title blocks by stamping a greeting onto vellum and then cutting it out and sticking onto the card front. For aperture cards, make windows with translucent paper by cutting a square hole in the front of the card and then gluing the vellum behind the hole. You can then use an additional image or embellishment inside the card that shows through the window from the front.
