How to Troubleshoot a Pressure Cooker
- 1). Check the gasket of the pressure cooker if steam is escaping from the unit or the lid will not sit on it properly. Check that the gasket is installed the right way up. Look for any cracks or worn areas that may indicate a dried gasket that is no longer effective.
- 2). Look inside the vent pipe of the unit if water is leaking out of it while cooking. Some older pressure cookers do this regularly, but newer ones often do not. Look in the valve for food debris or any soot. Clean it with a pipe cleaner.
- 3). Run cold water around the cooker if the lid is stuck to relieve pressure inside. Heat the unit until steam comes out the pressure valve then try running cold water over it again to relieve the pressure.
