Your kitchen cupboard or pantry is a hidden treasure filled with foods, herbs and oils that you can use to treat acne. Home acne treatments are high in vital nutrients that feed your skin and clear up breakouts. These remedies work by healing the skin or restoring moisture levels. Some natural treatments also contain anti-bacterial agents. - Raw honey is rich in moisture and anti-bacterial properties that are beneficial to acne-prone skin. A lack of moisture can cause dry skin to build up and clog pores, which aggravates acne. Honey adds moisture to the skin without clogging pores. Treat your skin with a raw honey facial mask once a week for two months; continue the treatment once a month thereafter. Heat a quarter cup of raw honey in the microwave for 5 seconds to liquefy it. Apply a thin layer to clean skin for 20 minutes and then wash your face with a mild cleanser.
- Fish oil contains anti-inflammatory properties that are beneficial for acne. The oil also moisturizes the skin without clogging pores. Combine 2 tablespoons of fish oil in a bowl with 3 tablespoons of raw honey. Mix thoroughly and apply the mixture to clean skin. Allow the ingredients to penetrate for 20 minutes and then wash your face with a mild face cleanser. Continue with weekly treatments until your skin clears up; follow up with another mask once a month to maintain results.
- Clean your skin with a mild cleanser and then apply ice cubes directly on inflamed acne for five minutes. Extract the juice from one cucumber. Saturate a cotton ball in the juice. Apply a thin layer of the cucumber toner on your entire face. Next, gently massage aloe vera gel into your skin. Aloe is a common ingredient found in many households; however, if you don't have any on hand, the cucumber and ice cubes alone work well as a acne remedy. The aloe just helps to further reduce inflammation.
- The aspirin, honey, mustard seed and yogurt acne mask is a powerful combination of products found at home. Crush six 325 mg tablets of aspirin and place the powder in a bowl. Mix in 1 teaspoon of mustard seed powder and 1/4 cup of honey. Add 1 cup of plain yogurt to the mixture and stir well. Apply the mask to clean skin; allow the ingredients to sink into your face for 20 minutes and then rinse thoroughly. Treat your skin to this home remedy once a week until your acne clears up; follow up once a month thereafter.
