How To Make Your Toddler Read Books

14
Children learn a great deal from their parents. Right from the smallest things to the biggest lessons in life, they get it all from their parents. Toddlers learn much from simply copying what their parent does. Reading also is something that children first learn from their parents. It is one activity that will be beneficial to both the parent and the child. This will also increase communication and have a healthy interaction with the child. Apart from the emotional closeness, it will also bring about voice recognition, language cognition and will increase your toddlers imagination.

Observe Your Kid:
Generally, when a child reaches the age of 2 or 3, he or she takes interest in reading. However, this might not be the case for all the children. Some children and not really inclined towards reading. So, you first need to observe your child and see if they are ready to read. If they pick up books from the shelf and keep flipping through pages randomly, this is a definite sign that they want to read books.

Make them love it:
Children love to play and you can use the play to teach them many things. Make reading books a fun activity and not a task. It has to be a pleasurable experience for them and they should look forward to it. They do not really understand a lot of words, so you can use childrens books which have a lot of colourful pictures and large fonts so that its easier for them to identify what they are reading. Do not take books which have miniscule fonts as that may bore your child and reading will be something he or she starts refraining from.

Do it together:
Make sure that you are also actively involved in the activity. If the parent fails to show the right amount of interest in reading, the child is never going to consider this activity. Read along with them. They associate the words and pictures with the expressions and voices that you make. You can use flashcards and even sing letters or words in a particular tone that will make them curious and interested in reading books.

These are three essential things you would require to do when you start reading books with your little one. Also, with children, you would require a great deal of patience and understanding. However, this is one activity which is highly beneficial when started at an early age.
