How to Make Drawer Sides Smaller if They Are Too Tall
- 1). Remove the nails from the front face of the drawer using a nipper. These nails connect the front face to the drawer frame. Discard the nails and place the front face with the knob or handle aside for now.
- 2). Place the measuring tape down one of the side panels of the drawer. Determine how much you wish to lower the side panel to make the drawer frame smaller. Flip the measuring tape 90 degrees and use it to draw a pencil line down the side panel, along the back panel and up the second side panel to indicate the new drawer height.
- 3). Cut the drawer using the reciprocal saw. Follow the pencil line around the two side pieces and the back panel. Sand the new drawer edges when you have finished the cutting.
- 4). Install the sliding tracks on both sides of the newly cut drawer, so the drawer attaches to the sliding bases installed in the drawer cabinet unit. Attach tracks using the installation screws that come with the sliding tracks and a screwdriver. Place the level on the sliding tracks to ensure you have evenly installed them on the drawer sides.
- 5). Reattach the frontal face panel on the front of the drawer using new nails and a hammer. Hammer the nails into the frontal panel so they extend into the two drawer sides and the bottom panel.
