"The Continental Ice sheets, polar ice sheets and alpine glaciers"
Something to ponder: Perhaps the Ice Sheets and Glaciers are relocating. The fact is, the World's temperature has only (still not to be ignored though) risen 1.33 degrees Fahrenheit in the past 100 years, and it has not increased in the past ten years. While some ice sheets and glaciers are diminishing, some ice sheets and glaciers are in the midst of growing. Mankind's contribution to this depletion is doubtful and miniscule at best. More likely it is driven by forces far beyond that of mankind's ability. An example being that of mankind's actual ability to alter the climate since the end of the last ice age, global temperatures have raised a total of 16 degrees Fahrenheit. Much of that period, man was incapable of creating much of any change, at least not until the beginning of the Industrial revolution, and research has shown us that at most, the temperature increase was minute.
Regarding Carbon Dioxide (CO2) escaping into the atmosphere, by far the largest contributor is that of water vapor (not droplets), which represents 95%. The oceans, that of the deep sea, which reflects oceanic temperature trends, which started warming ( Ice Core Data from the Antarctica show that CO2 has been increasing steadily for the last 19,000 years)about 19,000 years ago, obviously well in advance to mankind's overall minute CO2 contribution of approximately 02.8 percent today. To add to that, CO2 atmospheric concentrations were much, much higher in earth's history, and guess what? The earth was more than just fine; it was improving conditions for present mankind.
Many paleoclimatologist suggest that there is a good chance that the warming and cooling trends on the planet Earth are more likely driven by sun spot activity on our Sun. And not only that, as our solar system travels around the Milky Way galaxy (a very small galaxy at that), the journey taking over 200-250 million years to complete one revolution. Our solar system (and thus the Planet Earth) is affected by unknown galactic events and cycles, not to mention the fact that there are billions of other galaxies out there that can affect our weather, as our galaxy travels in their vicinity.
Unfortunately, a vast amount of the hype in Global warming is driven by those who wish to gain monetarily or achieve political power from this hot subject (no pun intended). A perfect example being that of carbon credits for your carbon footprint, in the end, this will simply cost the taxpayer and create more government bureaucracy, the end result, doing little or nothing in the realm of climate stability or change.
The fact is, one should be reminded that Ice periods are not the norm in the overall life of our planet Earth, they are very rare. The present Ice age (more precisely "Glacial Age") began 1.5 million years ago, and has been gradually subsiding for the past 15,000 years, it is entirely possible that it has reached the tipping edge, by its own accord.
Of late, there is now talk of utilizing some type of transportation vehicle or laser to seed the atmosphere with a form of reflective glitter that will re-direct the ultraviolet rays (electromagnetic waves) back into outer space, thus causing a cooling effect for earth. This type of thinking is insane; this tinkering could very well lead us over the edge, into a super Ice age, as well as have a profound effect on possible lack of solar energy necessary for sustaining life and agricultural products
Interestingly, speaking of ice sheets and glaciers, there exist no fossil records of Homo sapiens prior to the last Ice Age...Read More….
