Can Christians Get Angry?

13
God does not want us to be quick temper (Ephesians 4:31 €" 32; Colossians 3:8; Proverbs 16:32). James 1:20 states that anger prevents a person from living a righteous life before God. In whatever that you do, you should show tolerance and not be hot temper.

Ephesians 4:26 states that you should not be angry until the sun go down. Ecclesiastes 7:9 states that you must not be easily provoked because anger makes a person become foolish. A patient person is understanding but a hot temper person is foolish (Proverbs 14:29). Christians should show the qualities of endurance and forbearance in all that they do (1 Timothy 6:11).

When someone offends you, you must not be angry and hate him. You must forgive those who have offended you (Ephesians 4:32). Forgiving others means you don't hold any grudge or take revenge towards the person. You can pray to God and ask him to help you avenge on the person. However, you must not take revenge against that person yourself (Romans 12:19). You must be friendly towards your enemies (Luke 6:27 €" 36; Romans 12:20; Romans 12:14). The Bible says that we must pray for our enemies (Matthew 5:44).

The two most important commandments according to the Bible is to love God with all your heart and love your neighbors as yourself. If you love God, you will love people. If you don't forgive others, God will not forgive you. Before praying to God, you must forgive the offenses that others have committed against you (Colossians 3:13; Mark 11:26)

Having hatred in your heart is a sin. Galatians 5:20 €" 21 states that those who have hatred are obedience to their sinful desire and will not inherit the kingdom of God. We should live our lives for God and demonstrate the fruits of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22). We must abide in the Holy Spirit and serve one another with love (Galatians 5:13).

In 1 John 2:9, anyone who claims to be a follower of Jesus yet hate his brother is living in darkness. 1 John 3:15 states that hatred causes you to become a murderer. Hatred can cause bitterness in your life (Proverbs 15:17). Proverbs 10:12 states that hatred causes strifes but love is forgiving and overlooks all wrongs.

If you are angry towards someone, you should let go of your anger. You must confess your sins to God and ask him to forgive you for having anger in your heart.
