How to Build a Narrow Planter Box
- 1). Measure the length of the planting site. Cut two 2-by-8-inch boards to the measured length using a circular or handsaw. These are the side boards.
- 2). Cut two lengths of 2-by-8-inch board to use as the end boards. Cut the lengths so they are 12 inches long for smaller plants and 16 inches or longer for larger plants.
- 3). Lay the side boards on the ground, placing them upright on their narrow side. Set the 12- to 16-inch end boards on either end of the sides, so their edges overlap the ends of the side boards. This leaves an 8-inch space between the side boards if you use 12-inch end boards, or a 12-inch space with 16-inch end boards.
- 4). Nail the boards together, forming a box. Use two nails per each corner to ensure the boards are securely attached.
- 5). Set the box in the desired planting site. Fill it with high quality garden or potting soil and plant it as desired.
