Know that Iraqis practice the Islam religion. It's based on 5 pillars--faith, prayers, alms and charity, fasting and pilgrimage to Mecca. The Koran is their holy book and they worship in a Mosque.

Understand that Iraqi women usually wear a head scarf, even if they're dressed in Western clothing. It's a show of respect. Women are usually escorted by a male family member or friend.

Recognize that Iraqis don't feel the need for personal space like Westerners do. It's considered an insult to step or lean away from an Iraqi. Women are the exception. No one should touch, stand close to or stare at an Iraqi woman.

Talk to an Iraqi women only after she's greeted you. She will shake hands with only her fingertips, not the palm of her hand.

Shake hands with males while doing business. This must be done first. Make sure to not grip their hands too strongly or too meekly.
