How to Remove the Factory Navigation From a Toyota 4Runner
- 1). Turn the engine off, set the parking brake, and open the hood. Unhook the negative battery cable (-) with the pliers (this prevents electric shock). Set the cable aside.
- 2). Open the center storage console lid. Pry up one of the corners of the gearshift surround panel (at the front part of the console). Pull the surround panel up to unhook it. Unplug the four electrical connections from beneath the panel. Set the panel aside.
- 3). Lift up the gearshift casing panel (it surrounds the panel you just removed). Set it aside.
- 4). Remove the two 10 mm (3/8-inch) bolts from the lower portion of the steering column (near the hood release). Use a socket wrench or a pair of pliers.
- 5). Grasp the panel above the hood release and pull it toward you. Grasp the other side (above the accelerator pedal) and pull it towards you. Let the panel hang when the clips are released (it's not necessary to unhook the connections).
- 6). Remove the 10 mm (3/8-inch) bolt from behind the panel you unclipped (above the accelerator pedal). Open the storage door beneath the A/C control panel. Pull the door up to remove the storage compartment.
- 7). Remove the 10 mm (3/8-inch) bolt from behind the storage compartment door. Grasp the lower corners of the A/C control panel and pull it away from the dash. Unplug the electrical connection from behind it.
- 8). Remove the two 10 mm (3/8-inch) bolts on the lower part of the navigation system. These bolts also keep the vent panel attached. Grasp the corners of the vent panel (in the spot where the A/C control panel was) and pull the panel away. Unplug the connection for the emergency flasher.
- 9). Remove the two 10 mm (3/8-inch) bolts from the upper part of the navigation system (visible with the vent panel removed). Pull the system away from the dash.
