How Can I Kill Fire Ants?
- 1). Locate the nests. Fire ants build distinctive mounds that are not difficult to find. You can also follow trails of ants to see where they lead.
- 2). Pour panfuls of boiling water over the mound several times. This may be sufficient to kill the ants.
- 3). Lay out commercial ant bait or a home alternative such as sugar and water laced with borax. For the home remedy, mix one part borax with three parts sugar and sufficient water to form a paste. Position saucers with the bait in areas of high ant activity that are inaccessible to small children or pets. Ants take the poison back to the nests and share it, killing the whole colony.
