Rubber stamping is a fascinating craft but the vast range of ink pads can cause a lot of confusion.
Basically there are two main types of ink pads "DYE" and "PIGMENT".
DYE BASED INKPADS Dye based inkpads are quick drying, acid free ink pads.
Dye based ink pads are ideal for images with fine detail, as they give a sharp definition to the stamped image.
These ink pads are the best inks for general and office use, and for children.
Most of the colors are strong and vibrant but the inks are translucent so to see the ink color images need to be stamped on light colored paper.
Dye based ink pads usually dry too quickly to be used with embossing powders.
However, it is possible to do in certain instances.
There are several brands of dye based ink pads available including Impress and Adirondack, Kaleidacolor range of rainbow inkpads and many more.
PIGMENT BASED INK PADS Pigment ink has a thicker consistency so the colours are denser and more opaque.
Pigment ink is suitable for embossing as it has a longer drying time than dye based inks.
The slow drying time allows for the powder to be applies before using the heat gun.
Most papers and card can be printed with pigment ink except coated or glossy card.
The ink will not dry on glossy paper but the image can be embossed.
For general use and for children dye based ink pads are better.
