How to Be Prepared For the Hurricane Season
- 1). Learn about hurricanes. It is important that you know about hurricanes and what they can do. It is also a good idea to actually know when hurricane season is. Keep up with the news and the weather to track any hurricane activity.
- 2). Have food stored up that will keep well. Canned goods and mostly anything that does not require refrigeration is a necessity during the hurricane season. You should have enough food to last you and your family for about two weeks. Don't forget the bottled water. You will need water for things other than drinking such as brushing teeth, washing hands, etc..
- 3). Have a family plan available. Talk with your family members about what your plans are if there is a hurricane. Have numbers of family members and friends readily available. Create an evacuation plan if you can. Have a place lined up that you can go to if you need to evacuate.
- 4). Buy battery operated radios and flashlights. Stock up on batteries. You may also want to buy some radios and flashlights that are charged by cranking or shaking so that you don't even have to worry about batteries.
- 5). Get your family medical records together as well as information on any medications you or your family members might be taking. Keep these with you at all times if you need to evacuate.
