43
The current economic slowdown has resulted in the acute unemployment crisis throughout the country, and people are nervous by the continuous job cuts, mass retrenchments and unavailability of jobs.
The national unemployment report released by the American Bureau of Labor Statistics indicates an unemployment rate of 7.
7% in February 2013 and 8.
1% for the year 2012.
The dreadful economic situation and acute unemployment crisis are also apparent from the order of $85bn government cuts by Barak Obama on March 2013.
He also reported the government cuts may end up with 750,000 jobs loss.
In such job scenario, people are finding it difficult to sustain their family living costs and meet day-to-day expenses.
However, there is still some hope and a ray of light for these people who are hard hit by the economic crisis and job scarcity because health care field is still booming and offering massive employment opportunities to all level qualified medical and nursing care professionals.
Moreover, this field is already facing acute nursing shortage and require a higher number of nurses to fill up the vacant positions.
However, it is also a fact that federal legislation OBRA-87 has mandated nursing homes and Medicaid and Medicare funded facilities to employ only these nursing professionals that have successfully completed federal approved Nurse Aide Training and Competency Evaluation Program (NATCEP) and hold a CNA Certification.
Therefore, NATCEP has become a vital need for CNA jobs and one must complete it to work legally in the US.
The OBRA and state required CNA Training Program can be completed by attending 75 hours or more CNA classes, Lab and Clinical Training in 4-12 weeks.
The programs are conducted in vocational schools, community colleges, technical institutes and private schools, and on successful completion of the program, the students are allowed to challenge state competency evaluation test (CEP).
The test has two independent parts, Written/Knowledge Test and Skill/Clinical Test.
The Knowledge Test features 70-75 multiple-choice questions.
The candidates are offered 4 choice answers for every question and have to pick one correct answer for all questions to pass the Written Test.
The Skill Test requires demonstrating 5 skills on a dummy or model under the supervision of a registered nurse test instructor, who have at least 2 years practical nursing care work experience.
The correct demonstration of skills scores and passes the test.
Once, the candidates pass both tests they are "certified" and awarded a CNA Certification, and listed with the state Nurse Aide Registry.
They are also granted legal working permission to perform in a number of health care settings.
Moreover, the certification and "certified" title becomes an easy employment tool with them, and they can apply to varied direct patient care jobs for a respectable CNA Salary to cover their family expenses.
