Step-by-Step on How to Install the VGA Card
- 1). Remove the current graphics card drivers from your computer through the Device Manager. Open the Device Manager by right-clicking "My Computer" and selecting "Properties." Click the "Hardware" tab and then click on "Device Manager." Expand the "Display Adapter" section and right-click on your graphics card. Select the "Uninstall" option and wait for the drivers to uninstall.
- 2). Turn off your computer, remove any cables that are attached to it and then remove the side of the computer case. This generally involves removing the screws on the side panel of the computer and then sliding the panel off of the computer.
- 3). Locate your current VGA card in the computer. It will be located in the left section of the interior of the computer case, inserted into a white or black slot that runs horizontally along the motherboard. Remove the screw holding the VGA card to the case of the computer and gently pull it out of the slot to remove it from the computer.
- 4). Insert your new VGA card into the computer in the same configuration as your old card. After the card is fully in the card slot, use the screw that was holding the old card to the computer to secure the new card to the computer case. Replace the side of the computer case, plug the computer back in and turn it on.
- 5). Wait for the computer to boot into the operating system and then double-click on the driver installation file for your VGA card. This file may be on a CD that came with the new VGA card, or it may have been provided as a downloadable file. After the drivers have been installed, restart your computer to apply the settings changes.
