The Palm Beach/Miami/Fort Lauderdale area is a popular port for cruise lines, with many ocean cruisers departing from the area to travel the Atlantic. From Fort Lauderdale, several companies offer day cruises, either as an ocean excursion to the Bahamas, or as a short trip around the area to see the local sites.

• A full-day cruise to Freeport Grand Bahamas offers all the luxury and adventure of a longer cruise, but for a single day, and at a fraction of the cost. Departing Fort Lauderdale in the late morning, the cruise includes a buffet brunch served on the way to the Bahamas. On the return trip, enjoy a dinner buffet. In addition to the two meals, the all-inclusive day trip includes all drinks while on-board. The ship includes recreational activities, live entertainment and an on-board casino. Tropical Adventure Cruise

• Tropical Adventure Cruises leave three times daily, with a cruise that features Fort Lauderdale's city sites, as well as a brief excursion into the Atlantic. The 90-minute trip goes through downtown Fort Lauderdale, along the Intracoastal Waterway, and into Port Everglades before entering the Atlantic. The trip includes a glimpse into Millionaires' Row. • Florida Yacht Charter cruises Fort Lauderdale's inland waterways. Sites include the historic New River, home of Fort Lauderdale's rich and famous, the Intracoastal Waterway and Port Angeles. Your narrated tour will be aboard a luxury, air-conditioned yacht with panoramic views. An on-board bar serves light snacks and drinks. Carrie B Cruises

• Cruise the New River, the Intracoastal Waterway and Port Everglades aboard a 90-minute Carrie B "Venice of America" Cruise. The sightseeing cruise includes a peek at the homes and yachts of Fort Lauderdale's rich and famous along Millionaire's Row. Launching from Fort Lauderdale's New River Docks, the excursion travels along the Intracoastal Waterway and into cruise ship central: Port Everglades. Carrie B Cruises feature an air conditioned main cabin, or an open-air deck, where guests can lounge in the sun, or select a shaded seat to view the passing sites. The boats include a full bar with food and beverages available.
